JUNIOR WELLS • Hoodoo Man Blues featuring Buddy Guy (DELMARK 612)
Hoodoo Man Blues is Delmark’s #1 selling album, is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, was chosen
by Living Blues magazine as one of the Top Ten Desert Island Blues Discs, and has appeared in
many films.

JIMMY FORREST • All The Gin Is Gone (DELMARK 404)
Although Jimmy Forrest is well known for composing and playing the huge R&B hit “Night Train,”
his bebop tenor sax playing ranks among the best. This 1959 session features the very first
recording of guitarist Grant Green who later went on to Blue Note records. These were also
early recordings of drummer Elvin Jones who was yet to join the legendary John Coltrane
Quartet. The less than gentle title of this album should give you a gleaming insight to the hearty
type of offering enclosed; uninhibited mainstream bebop.

SUN RA • Sun Song (DELMARK 411)
This album was Sun Ra’s first, originally released in 1957 on Transition Records as Jazz by
Sun Ra. Includes Sun Ra’s original notes and poetry, such as “Explanation of Compositions,”
“The Techniques I Employ,” and “Instructions to the Peoples of Earth.” Tracks include
“Brainville,” “Call For All Demons,” and “Transition.”

With Sun Ra, piano; Art Hoyle & Dave Young, trumpet; John Gilmore, tenor sax;
Pat Patrick, baritone sax; Jim Herndon, tympani; Robert Barry, drums; Julian Priester,
trombone; Richard Evans, bass; Wilburn Green, electric bass; James Scales, alto sax.

MAGIC SAM •West Side Soul (DELMARK 615)
One of the greatest blues albums of all time, West Side Soul was chosen by Living Blues
magazine as one of it’s top ten Desert Island Blues Discs. The source material for the album is
the original 1967 analog stereo mix by Stu Black who recorded many of Delmark’s classic
1960s blues and jazz recordings.
With Mighty Joe Young, guitar; Stockholm Slim, piano; Earnest Johnson or Mac Thompson,
bass; Odie Payne Jr. or Odie Payne III, drums. Twelve songs include “That’s All I Need,”
“I Need You So Bad,” “Feelin’ Good,” “All Your Love,” “Don’t Want No Woman,” “Sweet Home
Chicago” and more.

Delmark’s Julia Miller was excited to be on an important panel discussing reissues and remastering!

Reissues & Remastering: What’s Involved?
Friday, April 14, 2023, 10:30-11:30AM

Bringing out a reissue of a record may seem straightforward, but from the legal wrangling over rights and royalties, through the technical challenges of working with less than perfect —or completely missing!— masters, improving the original without destroying its character, through the challenges of pressing and packaging, it’s a long and winding road.

This seminar features leaders in the field who have revitalized the world of LPs and brought back old favorites as well as obscure and unrecognized gems. They’ll describe the processes involved and the highs and lows of reviving old recordings.

Moderator: Michael Fremer, Editor-in-Chief, TrackingAngle.com, Senior Editor, The Absolute Sound

Panelists:
Chad Kassem, Owner, Acoustic Sounds
Shane Buettner, Owner, Intervention Records
Julia Miller, President/CEO, Delmark Records
Abey Fonn, Founder, Impex Records, Senior Product and Business Development, Elusive Disc and AudioFonn
