No one has forgotten the death of African-American George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from suffocation under the knee of a police officer. This tragic event will have a global impact and will be marked by multiple condemnations, protests and other demonstrations against racism and police violence, and well beyond the borders of the United States.
Artists of all stripes and all backgrounds have reacted to Floyd’s death to pay tribute to him (and continue to do so), and the bluesmen are obviously not left out. Thus, the duo composed of singer-harmonica player Billy Branch and guitarist Dave Specter has just uploaded a song called The Ballad of George Floyd for Delmark. It will also be the subject of a vinyl 45-rpm edition. Specter, who sings on this track, is accompanied – besides Branch – by Brother John Kattke on keyboards and Danny Shaffer on guitar. Nul n’a oublié la mort de l’Afro-Américain George Floyd le 25 mai 2020 à Minneapolis (Minnesota), asphyxié sous le genou d’un policier. Cet événement tragique aura un retentissement planétaire et sera marqué par de multiples condamnations, protestations et autres manifestations contre le racisme et les violences policières, et bien au-delà des frontières des États-Unis.
Des artistes de tous bords et toutes origines ont réagi suite à la mort de Floyd pour lui rendre hommage (et continuent de le faire), et les bluesmen ne sont évidemment pas en reste.
