ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE BRAZIL features The Headcutters and their nomination to the Living Blues Awards for their 2nd Delmark album with Bob Stroger. Read the article: https://rollingstone.com.br/…/banda-brasileira…/
English translation:
Brazilian Band Nominated for the Living Blues Awards, the Global “Oscars of the Blues”. By Guilherme Gonçalves
The Brazilian quartet The Headcutters has made history as the first band from the country to be nominated for the prestigious Living Blues Awards. Presented by the American magazine Living Blues, founded in 1970, the awards are widely regarded as the global “Oscars of the Blues.”
The Santa Catarina-based group is competing in the Best Blues Album of 2025 category with Bob Is Back!, an album recorded in collaboration with legendary American bassist Bob Stroger. Voting by both the public and a panel of blues critics is open through June 15 on the Living Blues website.
Because it is a specialized blues award, being among the nominees is considered one of the highest honors in the genre, recognizing excellence as judged by leading blues scholars and critics. Joe Marhofer, The Headcutters’ harmonica player and vocalist, celebrated the achievement:
“It is the ultimate recognition for preserving the tradition. Being nominated for a Living Blues Award is like being nominated for the Blues Oscars; it is the seal of authenticity that every artist in the genre aspires to receive.”
The nominated album is the band’s second release on Chicago-based record label Delmark Records. The recording further strengthens the group’s long-standing collaboration with Bob Stroger, which began in 2009. At 95 years old, Stroger is the longest-active bluesman still performing today and received two nominations this year, including one for Blues Artist of the Year.

About The Headcutters
Formed in the early 2000s by four childhood friends—Joe Marhofer (harmonica and vocals), Ricardo Maca (guitar and vocals), Arthur Catuto (bass and vocals), and Leandro Cavera (drums)—The Headcutters built their identity on musical authenticity and historical fidelity. The band’s name itself pays tribute to blues legends Muddy Waters, Little Walter, and Jimmy Rogers, who were informally known as “The Headhunters” during the 1950s.
The quartet faithfully recreates the classic sound of Chicago’s legendary blues labels, using vintage amplifiers and analog recording techniques. Over the course of its career, the band has released seven albums and two DVDs, including the documentary Walkin’ USA (2017).
Based in Itajaí, the group has performed at major blues events such as the King Biscuit Blues Festival and the Pinetop Perkins Blues Festival.
In 2022, with its previous album That’s My Name, The Headcutters reached No. 2 on the Living Blues Radio Chart, which tracks airplay on the most influential blues radio stations in the United States.
