“Walking Down This Road” – EJ Mathews
Publishing: EJ Mathews, BMI
EJ Mathews – vocals & acoustic guitar
Featuring Steve Bell on Harmonica
At the 2026 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, Julia A. Miller and Elbio Barilari of Delmark Records heard EJ Mathews and immediately knew they were in the presence of a singular new voice.
Born and raised in East Texas, in the Piney Woods region where country blues, gospel, and African-American musical traditions have deep roots, EJ carries the spirit of that landscape into a sound entirely his own: a powerful blend of swamp-music, country-funk, and the raw rhythmic energy of the blues.
A modern-day storyteller, EJ continues the tradition of the talking blues, where words become rhythm and personal experience becomes poetry. His music forms a bridge between the country blues of yesterday and the spoken-word energy of hip-hop and rap, proving that the blues is not a museum piece, but a living language.
Featuring Steve Bell on harmonica, “Walking Down This Road” introduces an artist who honors the roots while creating a new musical landscape — one that belongs unmistakably to EJ Mathews.

Mixed by Elbio Barilari & Julia A. Miller
