SHERYL YOUNGBLOOD was a rousing success on her ICELAND tour and Reykjavik Blues Festival – Welcome back home with appearance on WGN-TV!!

Sheryl Youngblood and her band have arrived in Reykjavik Iceland and are hitting the ground running – so many amazing people and great places, including the Cadillac Club! #sherylyoungbloodband#blúeshátíð#luckyrecordsreykjavik#delmarkrecords#cadillacclubreykjavik

Blúshátid i Reykjavik (Blues Time in Reykjavik) Night One was a packed house and soulful mood honoring the Icelandic greats – traditional group Spadar, singer/songwriter Lay Low, a standout trio of Thorleifer Davidsson(Kaleo)/David por Jónsson(composer)/Gummi Pé and finale with Bluskompaníid.

Superb host and Festival founder Johann Vilhjamsson with Julia Miller of Delmark Records

The Sheryl Youngblood Band blazed a hot two-hour set to close the Reykjavik Blues Festival! They were joined in a finale by vocalist Andrea Gylfa and Gummi Pe. Gylfa performed a previous set with the excellent organ quartet Kvartett Sigurdar Flosasonar. Opening the night was Krummi Björgvinsson.

This young guitarist, Trenton Page, was in Reykjavik to pick up a beautiful guitar built by Gunnar Hjordisarson of Custom Guitars Iceland. He performed in the jam at the Cadillac Club and after sets at the festival. Gunnar is wearing Sheryl’s shirt!

“There’s always a spirit of love at the Blues Festival”

Sheryl Youngblood and her band, from the blues capital Chicago, will perform on Maundy Thursday, and the program is varied on both days.

“It’s great to be back at our original venue at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica—it’s the second year in a row we’re there,” says Guðmundur Pétursson, guitarist and artistic director of the Reykjavík Blues Festival.

The festival will be held for the 20th time on April 1–2. The first festival took place in 2004. It was canceled for two years during the pandemic and following the passing of its former director, Halldór Bragason.

Chicago: The heart of the blues

On Maundy Thursday, Krummi Björgvins will revisit classic blues roots, while Sigurður Flosason’s quartet will perform with Andrea Gylfadóttir. American blues singer Sheryl Youngblood and her band from Chicago will also perform.

“She follows in the footsteps of many great blues singers we’ve hosted from Chicago, such as Deitra Farr and Zora Young. Chicago has been the center of blues in the U.S. since World War II, with Chess Records playing a major role—releasing artists like Muddy Waters and Etta James.”

Both nights will also feature the festival’s club stage, where younger musicians perform. On Tuesday evening, the Cadillac Club will host an open jam session at Skútuvogur 30.

Pétursson says a strong community of blues fans has formed around the festival over the years.

“Our goal is that a spirit of love always prevails at the Blues Festival.”
