Saturday is the first installment of Feelin’ Groovy: Celebration of Chicago’s Independent Record Labels. Feelin’ Groovy will highlight the incredible artists and organizations that have helped Chicago’s music scene remain an influence all over the world. This first free show highlights Delmark Records, with music from the incredible Linsey Alexander Band.

As part of the first ever Chicago In Tune Festival, Feelin’ Groovy will highlight the incredible artists and organizations that have helped Chicago’s music scene remain an influence all over the world. Hosted by local writers Jill Hopkins, Britt Julious, and Aaron Cohen, these free shows will feature conversations with key decision makers at historic and upcoming record labels and live sets from musicians that span genres and generations. This program is partially supported by a grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events celebrating the Year of Chicago Music Chicago In Tune.
Each Feelin’ Groovy show will begin with a half-hour conversation between the host and representatives from the label, followed by a 45minute set from one of the label’s artists.

Delmark Records is the oldest continuously operating jazz and blues independent record label in the United States. It was founded by Robert G. Koester in St. Louis, Missouri in 1953, originally under the name “Delmar.” In 1958, Koester and the label relocated to Chicago with the label’s current name: Delmark.

Although having played with B.B.King, Bobby Rush, Buddy Guy, Little Milton, Magic Slim, Johnnie Taylor, A.C.Reed, Larry McCray, Bither Smith, John Primer, Otis Clay, Eddie Clearwater, and other great blues performers, Linsey Alexander has remained resolutely true to his own style. His earlier CD’s released, “Someone’s Cookin’ in My Kitchen,” “My Days Are So Long,” and “If You Ain’t Got It” are all three compilations of original Blues and R&B tunes.
