If the name Jodie Christian is familiar to you, it’s either because you are a Chicagoan and know of his place in the windy city jazz scene or because you have already heard him performing on other artists’ albums on Delmark, Argo, Verve, Atlantic, or other labels. He has recorded with an endless roster of leaders such as Sonny Stitt, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Eddie Harris, John Klemmer, Gene Ammons, Buddy Montgomery, and Les McCann, to name just a few. Jodie’s first album under his own direction is presented with a sense of bewilderment that it has taken so long to record this mainstay of the Chicago jazz scene as leader.
