Rossano Sportiello is one of the most exciting new talents to burst upon the scene in this decade. His command of the jazz language is complete - whether it is within the stride tradition or through the fluid harmonic concepts of the beboppers and Bill Evans. Dan Barrett and Barry Harris have been particularly supportive in praise of his talents.
Dan first heard Rossano perform at the 1998 Ascona Jazz Festival in Switzerland/ "This young Italian cat started swinging. In fact he took the whole band to some other level. This was Big League jazz playing, some of the best and most exciting I've heard yet." That enthusiasm led to this recording, which was made five years later in California prior to Rossano returning, once again, to Ascona for performances with Dan Barrett's All Star band.
