Trumpeter Roy Campbell's first Delmark CD, New Kingdom, featured three trio performances. The critically acclaimed album was a top ten jazz CD in Cadence's 1993 Readers Poll. The Pyramid Trio's new member Hamid Drake and long-time Campbell collaborator William Parker have been working together since 1994. When a trumpeter couldn't do a tour last spring Roy leapt at the chance to play in Peter Brötzmann's hard-charging Die Like A Dog. Roy would finally get to work with the mighty drummer Hamid, in whom Parker had found a rhythm section soulmate.
